METROX Lens — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 April 2026
METROX Lens is a Chrome browser extension that helps users in Austria evaluate apartment listings on Willhaben and ImmoScout24.at. This policy describes what data the extension processes, where, and why.
1. Summary
The extension itself does not collect or transmit personal data. All listing-related processing happens locally in your browser. Standard network requests to our CDN may include technical data (e.g. IP address) handled by the hosting provider in line with their own privacy notices. We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, advertising networks, or third-party SDKs.
2. What data the extension processes
The extension only processes publicly available data visible on listing pages. When you open a listing on a supported portal, it reads:
- Listing price (sale price or monthly rent)
- Floor area in m²
- Number of rooms
- Postal code, street, city
- Year of construction (if shown)
- Heating demand (HWB) and energy class (if shown)
- Whether the listing is marked as 'provisionsfrei' or 'befristet'
3. Where this data is stored
All listing-related data remains locally in your browser:
- chrome.storage.session — current listing data, automatically cleared when the browser closes
- chrome.storage.local — your settings (theme, language, default down-payment percentage) and cached benchmark values
- No listing-related data is transmitted to METROX servers, the portals, or any third party
4. Network requests by the extension
The extension makes one type of outbound request: a weekly fetch of public Austrian benchmark data (Richtwerte, energy tariffs) from our own CDN at https://www.metrox.io/extension-data/. The extension does not initiate any additional requests to Willhaben or ImmoScout24 beyond those your browser already makes when you load a listing page yourself. We never see which listings you open.
4a. Hosting / CDN
Stammdaten files at https://www.metrox.io/extension-data/ are served via our hosting infrastructure (Vercel, with Cloudflare as upstream CDN). These providers may process technical request data (such as IP address, user-agent, timestamp) for the purposes of delivery, security, and abuse prevention, in accordance with their own privacy policies (https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy and https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/). We do not receive identifiable analytics from these providers about extension users.
4b. Chrome Web Store data usage disclosure
- We do NOT sell user data.
- We do NOT use user data for advertising or marketing.
- We do NOT transfer user data to third parties for purposes outside the extension's primary function.
- We do NOT use personal data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
- We do NOT collect or process special categories of personal data (Art. 9 GDPR).
5. Permissions used and why
storage — to save your settings and cache benchmark data locally. alarms — to schedule the weekly benchmark refresh. Host permissions are limited to www.willhaben.at, www.immobilienscout24.at and our own CDN. The extension does not request access to your tabs, browsing history, cookies, or other websites.
5a. Legal basis
To the extent any limited processing falls under the GDPR (e.g. technical data handled by the hosting provider when the extension fetches benchmark data), the lawful basis is our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — providing the extension's functionality and ensuring its safe operation — strictly limited to local browser processing and standard hosting telemetry. No profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR takes place.
6. Children
The extension is not directed at children under 16. It does not knowingly process personal data from any user.
7. Your rights (GDPR / DSGVO)
Because the extension itself does not store identifiable personal data on our servers, there is generally no data to access, correct or delete on our side. If our hosting provider has retained technical request data attributable to you, you may exercise your rights of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and objection (Art. 21) by writing to the contact below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde, www.dsb.gv.at). You can clear all locally stored extension data at any time by removing the extension or by clearing site data in chrome://settings.
